Buffing Out a GluBoost Finish

Let’s say that you used GluBoost Fill n’ Finish and got a super smooth very shiny finish. But then you thought to yourself, can I get even more gloss out of this finish? The answer is yes, and the method is buffing. It is possible to buff out a finish by hand, but you will be expending a lot of elbow grease. I use a very inexpensive hand held buffer and get great results, here’s how.

Use ultra-fine sanding pads to further smooth the Fill n’ Finish surface.

First off, if you have not already done so, smooth the finish by using Micro-Mesh pads or something similar. I hand sand all the way up to 12,000 grit. Next you need to get a product called buffing compound. There are many brands to choose from so I buy the cheapest. Buffing compound suspends ultra-fine abrasive particles in a solution. Apply a small amount of the buffing compound and spread it out with a shop towel.

My small buffer has a synthetic buffing head. I start out with a terry-cloth bonnet over the head and moving the buffer slowly across the surface. As you work the surface you can see areas where the gloss pops up quickly and areas that need more work. After it looks like most of the buffing compound has disappeared, I take of the terry-cloth bonnet and finish up with the synthetic “lambswool” looking head.
